Students study theory and practice of the media culture. They also study about the future together.

Before a movie is completed, various people get involved and many processes are needed. In the Visual Concept Planning Department, students find their own directions with faculty members who play active parts in the world of motion pictures and visual images by using the same system of movie and broadcasting studios while studying the process of making visual images slowly and carefully. Students can create their own programs of study according to their aptitude and goals to be cameramen, movie directors, and scenario-writers.

Students master all processes of making movies by film practically and comprehensively. They experience the process which appeals to intellect and sensibility such as producing scenarios, shooting and composing music. Students learn techniques such as structure and function of camera, frame-work, and characters of lenses, types and qualities of film, and lighting skills in the same facilities and equipment that the professionals are using.

Students experience all process of various works such as long and short-dramas, documentaries, expressive images, art animations, commercial films. Among them, they find a genre which they want to tackle and deepen it. Especially, while emphasizing planning and scenario, students are given instructions on basic techniques as producers to convey writers’ thoughts and intentions to viewers.

In the world of filmmaking, there is a saying which goes a story is most important, visual images are secondly important, and actors are thirdly important. A script is so called the “nucleus” and “drawing plan” which plays a vital role in making movies. Students master basic techniques of scenario through lectures and interviews; afterwards, they tackle planning sheets and scenarios step by step, for 15 minute and 30 minute works. Students receive detailed instructions from faculty members who are active at the forefront of the artistic world.

Arts and Sciences of Moving Images

Through students of cultures of moving images in all ages and countries, we foster characters as producers actively at work.

In the Course of Arts and Sciences of Moving Images, students learn the multifaceted subjects such as history of moving images, theory of artists, theory of works, theory of genres, theory of styles, and theory of media. This is the especially important field for the students who plan graduation projects. Students master the practical techniques which is necessary for the present-day expressions such as choice of original books, staffing, casting, budgets, planning while learning expressions in films of all ages and countries. They strive for the leaders of production of moving images.
